About
An independent institute for responsible technology decisions
Foundation "Institute for Sustainable Development and Innovation" is a Bulgarian public-benefit foundation. We produce and give away the practical knowledge organisations need to make sound decisions about AI, industrial systems and energy.
1. Our mission
We help organisations across Bulgaria — businesses, municipalities, non-profits, schools and universities — use artificial intelligence and data responsibly, and make better energy and technology decisions, by publishing independent, practical, method-transparent knowledge.
In practice that means three things. We research questions that Bulgarian organisations actually face. We turn the answers into usable artefacts: guides, checklists, methodologies and calculators rather than opinion pieces. And we publish the assumptions behind every number, so a reader can disagree with us on the evidence.
2. Why we exist
Vendor information is selective, and it rarely includes the cases where the project is not worth doing.
That gap has a measurable cost: oversized installations, efficiency measures taken in the wrong order, monitoring systems that produce data nobody uses, and AI pilots that never connect to a decision.
3. How we work
Our resources are published at no cost and without a paywall.
Every calculation states its assumptions and its sources.
We do not sell installations, equipment, software or consultancy here.
Figures are grounded in Bulgarian irradiation, tariffs, regulation and grid conditions.
We treat the ethics of artificial intelligence as part of the engineering, not an afterthought.
4. Our statutory objectives
Recorded in the register; translated in full from the Bulgarian statute.
Support sustainable development, the green energy transition and the digital transformation of Bulgaria, through developing, promoting and applying innovative methods based on artificial intelligence, data analysis, energy efficiency, photovoltaic technologies and resource optimisation.
Encourage the development and responsible application of artificial intelligence, data analysis and digital tools for optimising production, energy and organisational processes.
Support a wide range of participants in the green energy transition through access to knowledge, methodologies, practical resources and good practice.
Encourage the adoption of solutions for energy efficiency, photovoltaic energy, and the monitoring and optimisation of consumption.
Develop educational and applied-research initiatives in artificial intelligence, photovoltaic technologies, energy storage systems, digitalisation and sustainable energy.
Create and distribute guides, checklists, methodologies, analyses and publications of public value.
Support interaction between business, science, the public sector and non-governmental organisations in order to accelerate the green and digital transition.
Encourage ethical and responsible approaches to the development and use of artificial intelligence.
5. Governance
By role, deliberately — the public register names the officeholders.
The Foundation is directed by a Board of Trustees (настоятелство) serving a five-year mandate, and represented by a Manager (управител). Both are recorded in the public register, which is the authoritative record of who currently holds those positions. No individual names appear on this page; that is deliberate.
